Kayla Roy has served as a Research Assistant at Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI) since 2023. She earned her B.S. in Marine Science from California State University Monterey Bay and her M.S. in Marine Science through Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, where her thesis focused on enhancing White abalone aquaculture using alternative feeds and probiotics. At HSWRI, Kayla conducts invertebrate propagation research on California Warty sea cucumbers and Pacific Calico scallops, exploring optimal feeding, settlement, and temperature conditions for larval culture. She also supports Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) studies involving Purple sea urchins, California Warty sea cucumbers, White seabass, and macroalgae such as Ulva australis and Devaleraea mollis. Her work contributes to sustainable aquaculture practices and improving invertebrate hatchery techniques.
