Rex serves as the Assistant Growout Facility Coordinator at Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, where he supports the Ocean Resources Enhancement and Hatchery Program (OREHP). In this role, he assists with the rearing, tagging, transport, and release of hatchery-raised white seabass throughout Southern California.

 

Rex brings a strong background in marine biology, field research, and aquatic animal care, with hands-on experience in both laboratory and open-water environments. He previously worked as an NSF Research Fellow at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and as a Marine Instructor. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from UC San Diego and is a certified PADI Divemaster with experience in scientific diving, aquatic animal husbandry, and marine fieldwork. Before joining HSWRI, Rex gained additional experience in marine research and education through various roles focused on habitat monitoring, species identification, and public outreach. His professional interests include sustainable fisheries, applied marine science, and advancing ocean conservation through hands-on work and community engagement.
